Mugwump released Tunnel Vision in April 1996. Only 400 coppies were made on cassette and were distributed across Europe. It proved to be more popular than that of the previous release, Ides Of May, and it came with a note from Dave Burton, giving permission to the owner to copy and disribute the tape as they wished. This worked in favour of Mugwump as the tape became very popular amoung tape traders, resulting in the release gettng to America and receiving radio play all over the U.S.A.
The Tunnel Vision sound differed from that of the first punk-like release, and recieved better reviews from underground fan zines, being describes as "dark Indie" "dream music" and in other parts of the world, "goth". However, the band were suprised at the number of reviews describing the release as dark and sorrowful.
